FAQs

General

The Taranaki Health Foundation is a charitable foundation associated with the Taranaki DHB. The goal of the Taranaki Heath Foundation is to enable the best possible healthcare in our region.

Unfortunately, whilst the government provides funding for healthcare, there is lot's more funding that is needed. Taranaki provides a healthcare service far beyond what a region of this size is expected to provide. This is possibly because of the generous contributions made by the community.

Project Maunga Stage 2

Taranaki DHB is moving ahead with both Project Maunga Stage Two and the Seismic Risk Management Plan (SRMP). Project Maunga will see the construction of the New East Wing Building (NEWB), a 20,000m2, six-storey building housing many of Taranaki Base Hospital’s acute clinical services including ED, ICU, Maternity, Primary Birthing, Neonatal, Radiology, Laboratory and a roof-top helipad. The SRMP will see the construction of a new Renal Unit, Energy Centre, Computer Room as well as an upgrade to critical site wide infrastructure and the demolition of the C-Block (where Renal currently is).

The government has committed to giving $330 million to the development of Project Maunga Stage 2. Unfortunately, this does not cover all the facilities we need. This means we need support from the community to ensure we can enhance the services provided and ensure we have a successful health system in Taranaki.
